HABS IL-1215 · Scott, Plate XIII
A Queen Anne house on its grounds, in three dimensions
The Hinckley House (Hinsdale, Illinois, 1886), framed stick by stick from its nine HABS sheets, standing on its lot inside the grounds Frank J. Scott drew for a house like it in 1870 (Plate XIII), fitted to this lot. Every tree and shrub grows from planting to sixty years and turns with the seasons; the sun crosses the sky at Hinsdale's latitude.

Notes
- The house is its frame model, every stud and rafter of the balloon frame its sheets imply (no HABS sheet draws a member, so each size is estimated from the date and the walls); the frame only, no siding or roof, so you see how it is built. Its 1986–89 kitchen and family room are left out.
- The grounds are Scott's Plate XIII, mirrored so its drive runs down the west side as the house's does, and stretched to reach the porch. The plantings with no room on this lot, or that would stand on a walk or the drive, are left out; Scott's own trained pine arch stands over the gate.
- The ground is drawn flat, with the first floor 2'-6" over it (est.): the house's own grade falls 3'-9" from the back to the front porch.
- The garage HABS drew at the back of the lot is massing only (its heights est.); the street, its parkway and the fence's height are estimated.
- Walk sets you down at a person's eye, 5'-3" over the floor. Drag to look round; W A S D or the arrow keys walk, or the pad on a phone. A view button or Esc takes you back out.
