Live models · lamps

Three lamps, three old types.

Each takes a lamp nobody owns — the Edo andon, the chōchin, the pleated shade of about 1900 — and builds it the same way: square-section white oak for the structure, ripped from 19 mm board, and a translucent printed shade for the light. The shade does what the printer does well and does not pretend to be paper. These are designs, not yet built; every part on the model pages is computed live from the same numbers as the workshop CAD.

Wood that comes apart

Caps lift off, panels slide out, shades come off a harp. A cracked shade is a reprint, not a new lamp.

Kept off the bulb

Every lamp is open at the top and vented below. Each model shows its clearance to the bulb glass and the heatsink, and warns when a slider takes it too close.

The pictures

Grok Imagine, given a render of each model. The proportions are the model’s; the room, the light and the grain are the image model’s.
